Position Summary

In accordance with the plans and policies of Tampa Family Health Centers, Inc. the Dental Assistant Coordinator is responsible for directly supervising Dental Assistants. The DA Coordinator provides oversight of clinical practices, oversees regulatory compliance, safety and standards of care, administrative practices relevant to the clinic and business administration activities.


Essential Duties & Functions

• Directly supervises The Dental Assistants, manage PTO functions and handle timecards.

• Develop, maintain, and implement formal policies and procedures.

• Guides Dental Assistants to deliver consistent standards of care according to policies and assuring clinical practices are above reproach and of the highest quality.

• Active involvement in the interview process and orient and train new staff, as required.

• Evaluate direct reports to ensure performance goals related to production, clinical quality and regulatory compliance are met. Provide recommendations to the Dental Director for operational improvements to the Dental Department and related programs.

• Collaborate with the Operations, Medical and Pharmacy to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs including staffing and patient visit ratios, scheduling, cost-benefit of programs; advise on facilities and equipment purchases and repairs.

• Develop clinic staffing schedule with primruy focus on the dental assistants to maximize productivity.

• Represent TFHC at community meetings and events, as requested.

• Handles dental insurance and patient grievances


Essential Functions:

• Assists the Dentist and Dental Assistants in chairside procedures routinely done in a general dental practice.

• Responsible for preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for each procedure.

• Responsible for the sterilization of instruments and hand pieces, cleaning and routine maintenance of instruments, hand pieces, equipment, and work areas.

• Performs routine reception work including scheduling and rescheduling patients, recording demographic and medical infonnation in patient records, greeting and seating of patient.

• Helps with submission of pre-authorizations for contracted dental insurances and records data in patient's chart.

• Helps to coordinate dental cases pickups and deliveries with contracted dental labs.

• Helps to identify related medical and/or social problems and discusses with the dentist.

• Possesses an ability and willingness to learn.

• Able to establish and maintain effective communication with patients and coworkers. Able to communicate in English with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Maintain effective and positive working relationships with patients and staff with the ability to motivate patients.

• Identifies need for supplies, materials, equipment and assists with ordering process of dental supplies.

• Helps to coordinate maintenance and equipment service requests from dental service company


Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training

• Expanded function of Dental Assistant

• BLS Certification


Required Years of Experience

• At least two years' experience overseeing/managing/supervising dental programs.

• Health Care management/administrative experience is required


Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Ability to navigate and enter data into an electronic health record.

• Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds

• Strong customer service skills
