Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:The Medical Toxicologist:
- Performs moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses routine and specialized automated and non-automated laboratory procedures and/or techniques for which qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab section operating procedures including use of LCMS
- Ensures operation of all laboratory analytical equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides information to internal and external clients by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and protocol
- Assists the Molecular Technical Supervisors and the Medical Director in developing and distributing proficiency samples, analysis, and reporting of testing results.
- Identifies the technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results and assists in developing corrective action plans.
- Instructs personnel in work team(s) on new methods and/or instruments. Teaches laboratory procedures, processes, and policies, including methodology and instrument operation
- Assist with writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provides technical information and/or instruction to clients, new employees, medical students, residents, peers, and the public as requested and where appropriate.
- Maintains open and effective communication with personnel within the work team, and with members of other teams throughout the laboratory.
- Assist Technical Supervisor and Medical Director with the review and development of quality control metrics.
- Covers all lab assistant duties when a lab assistant is not available
- This position requires repetitive motions for long lengths of time
- This position requires standing and sitting for long periods of time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 1 year of clinical experience.
Preferred:
- Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 1 years of clinical experience performing molecular assay testing
- Completion of internship program from an approved school of Medical Technology or school of Clinical Laboratory Science.
- ASCP certified, ASCP eligible, or equivalent.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory with VIP customers.
