The Medical Toxicologist:

  1. Performs moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses routine and specialized automated and non-automated laboratory procedures and/or techniques for which qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab section operating procedures including use of LCMS
  2. Ensures operation of all laboratory analytical equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  3. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  4. Provides information to internal and external clients by answering questions and requests.
  5. Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  6. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  7. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and protocol
  8. Assists the Molecular Technical Supervisors and the Medical Director in developing and distributing proficiency samples, analysis, and reporting of testing results.
  9. Identifies the technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results and assists in developing corrective action plans.
  10. Instructs personnel in work team(s) on new methods and/or instruments. Teaches laboratory procedures, processes, and policies, including methodology and instrument operation
  11. Assist with writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures.
  12. Provides technical information and/or instruction to clients, new employees, medical students, residents, peers, and the public as requested and where appropriate.
  13. Maintains open and effective communication with personnel within the work team, and with members of other teams throughout the laboratory.
  14. Assist Technical Supervisor and Medical Director with the review and development of quality control metrics.
  15. Covers all lab assistant duties when a lab assistant is not available
  16. This position requires repetitive motions for long lengths of time
  17. This position requires standing and sitting for long periods of time.
  18. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Required:

  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 1 year of clinical experience.

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 1 years of clinical experience performing molecular assay testing
  • Completion of internship program from an approved school of Medical Technology or school of Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • ASCP certified, ASCP eligible, or equivalent.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory with VIP customers.
