Title: WeGo Operations Supervisor

Purpose: This position is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of vehicles in passenger service to ensure highest quality and reliability of the services for our customers, and adherence to schedules and established safety standards and procedures through appropriate supervision. Also are responsible for directly supervising a team of operators.

This position Supervises day-to-day operations of vehicles in passenger service to ensure the highest quality and reliability of the services for our customers. Ensure schedule adherence, safety standards and procedures through appropriate supervision. This includes dispatch, field services, monitoring Operator performance and work. The assignment of specific essential functions to Supervisors will vary according to areas of individual expertise, shift rotation and Agency needs.

Reports To: Director of Operations & Operation Manager

Principal Job Functions:

1. Monitors bus service to ensure adherence to schedules and safety regulations

2. Supervises the performance of bus operators

3. Performs radio and dispatching functions for bus service

4. Performs functions of the AVL/MDT system

5. Investigates all bus accidents and prepares reports

6. Supervises the daily operations of the Music City WeGo Central facility

7. Assist with vehicle sign out when needed.

  • Gain a complete and thorough knowledge of all aspects of the American with disabilities ACT (ADA) as related to transit service provisions and associated paratransit service parameters.
  • Assists with the planning, supervision, managing and evaluation for the fixed route, commuter route, and paratransit service; monitors system-wide performance on routes and schedules; institutes new and modified routes and schedules to improve service and enhance cost effectiveness; manages and evaluates the results of run cutting and headway analysis and reviews route and scheduling deficiencies.
  • Monitor and assess services for driver and passenger safety. In addition, collect the information necessary to investigate customer/public complaints.
  • Collect and maintain information for necessary federal and state reporting requirements. This includes but is not limited to on-time performance, missed trips, service mileage by type, service mileage by vehicle, ADA service parameters and other identified metrics.
  • Complete understanding of operational policies and procedures, as well as state and federal service requirements specific to transit.
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring of all positions within the Department and aiding all new employees through training processes.
  • Maintains effective working relationship and provides back-up support to subordinate, peers and management personnel during peak workload periods of scheduled and unscheduled leaves.
  • Exhibit and exude leadership, the ability to work with people with transit barriers; must possess good organizational skills, record keeping skills, basic computer skills and meet required deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recommended Preparation Training and Experience for Employment:

  • Completion of high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Education – Preferred some college in a related field and/or four years of experience as a transit operator; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above (Supervisory and Bus operator experience is desired).
  • Licenses, Registration - Must possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver License) or Higher (Desired) with passenger and air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain the license either prior to assuming this position or within a timeframe set forth by management (Clean Motor Vehicle Record).
  • Must acquire knowledge of all bus routes, fare structures, safety procedures, standard operating procedures and labor contract within timeframe set by Operations Management.
  • Language Skills – Understand, follow oral and written instructions, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with multiple individual and agencies; deal courteously and tactfully with the public; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and maintain records and prepared accurate reports.
  • Mathematical Skill - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure to make moderately complex mathematical computations in timely manner with speed and accuracy.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to organize, file and retrieve materials and documents; establish priorities and organize own workload. Retrieve data for statistical and other reporting purposes; research problems, determine source of error and correct; understand governing regulations of assigned function; use independent judgment in making decisions within prescribed policies and procedures; maintain confidentiality, deployment of de-escalations strategy.
