The Medical Biller and Coder has several responsibilities that require a keen eye for detail, customer service skills, and unique technical knowledge. Is responsible for organizing patient medical costs and sending invoices to collect payment from patients and their insurers. Their duties include calling patients to discuss payment and develop reasonable payment plans, entering patient data into administrative systems and recording information about outstanding claims.


  • Acting as a liaison between insurers, medical offices, and patients.
  • Properly coding medical services, diagnosis, treatments, and more.
  • Invoicing patients and insurance companies for claims or payments.
  • Tracking and collecting payments, including setting up payment plans for outstanding bills
  • Correcting rejected insurance claims and coding errors
  • Handling confidential information and abiding by HIPAA laws and other medical policies
  • Monitor and record late payments.
  • Investigate and appeal denied claims.
  • Making sure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
  • Complying with medical coding guidelines and policies
  • Receiving and reviewing patients’ charts and documents for verification and accuracy
  • Following up and clarifying any information that is not clear to other staff members
  • Collecting information made by the Physician from different sources to prepare monthly reports
  • Examining any medical malpractice that has been reported by analyzing and identifying the medical procedures, diagnoses or events that lead to the negligence
  • H.S Diploma or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a medical billing and coding specialist.
  • Experience with electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, database programs, and ____.
  • Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
  • Interpersonal skills, organizational skills are a must.
  • Knowledge of codes like CPT, Ick-10, and HCPCS.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic math.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish highly preferable
  • Solid understanding of billing software and electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience with our system.
