Position Description

Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Mechanic Foreman to join our growing team at our Bayou La Batre, Alabama shipyard. This is a great opportunity for you to provide your knowledge and skills to a growing company in building a new Coast Guard vessel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of 12 volt electrical systems
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills, coordinating with other craft lead and Superintendents
  • Must be able to follow schedules and deadlines, identifies constraints with schedule
  • Works with Quality Assurance to fully and properly document work completed as within standards.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of up to 12 people.
  • Employee must ensure the proper tools are used correctly and tools are safeguarded and maintained in working order.
  • Must be able to install stern tubes, rudder tubes, z drive and other vessel propulsion systems using proven line establishment techniques to precise tolerances.
  • Must be able to align diesel engines to shafts, pumps steering systems proficiently
  • Must be able to read various instruments of measure (micrometer, feeler gauges, levels, tape, torque wrenches, calipers, etc)
  • Must possess knowledge of steering, fuel, exhaust, cooling, and other related systems as it pertains to marine engines and generators.
  • Supports company and enforces company policies with assigned personnel.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • 2 to 3 years supervisor experience
  • Fundamental knowledge in mechanical systems as it pertains to boat building
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.
