Responsibilities of a Collision Repair Estimator
Several job responsibilities are listed below for the collision estimator job:
- Conduct thorough inspections of the damaged vehicle to assess the extent of collision repair damage, using your expertise as a body shop estimator.
- Utilize industry-standard tools and software to generate accurate repair estimates, leveraging your knowledge of collision repair processes and cost estimation techniques.
- Collaborate closely with the body shop manager, body technicians and other team members to ensure accurate assessment and timely completion of repairs, effectively communicating your findings and recommendations.
- Communicate repair estimates and timelines to customers in a professional and customer-oriented manner, utilizing your strong communication and customer service skills to do the job successfully.
- Liaise with insurance companies to provide necessary documentation and negotiate repair costs, if required, showcasing your familiarity with insurance claims procedures and negotiation skills.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, vehicle technologies, and repair techniques, actively participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to company policies, safety guidelines, and industry regulations to ensure a safe and efficient working site environment.
Requirements of the Collision Estimator Job
Some possible requirements listed for estimator jobs are down below:
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional certifications or relevant education is a plus), providing you with a solid educational foundation for this estimator role.
- Proven experience as a collision estimator or in a similar role in a reputable body shop or automotive repair facility, demonstrating your hands-on experience in estimating collision damage. Some body shops may seek more entry level whereas other shops may want a candidate with more experience in the 5+ years range.
- Strong knowledge of collision repair processes, parts, and labor costs, acquired through your practical experience as an auto body estimator.
- Proficient in using estimator industry-standard estimating software and tools, showcasing your technical skills and ability to leverage technology for accurate estimates.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately assess vehicle damage, ensuring precision in your estimations and recommendations.
- Strong communication and customer service skills is a must for a collision estimator, enabling you to effectively interact with customers, insurance companies, and internal team members.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy, showcasing your ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Familiarity with insurance claims procedures and negotiation skills is preferred for an estimator, allowing you to navigate the insurance process confidently.
