Summary
Industrial Inspection & Analysis is looking for a full-time Metallurgist/Metallurgical Engineer (or Material Scientist) to join our team at our lab in St. Louis, MO.
The Metallurgist primary job function is to conduct evaluations on components of varying size and complexity supporting a wide range of industries in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 as well as internal procedures and industry standards. We strive for story-worthy customer service.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Conduct failure analyses of metallic (and occasionally non-metallic) components, producing detailed reports with technical findings
- Perform metallurgical laboratory evaluations including scanning electron microscopy, metallographic sample preparation and evaluation, accelerated corrosion testing, and microhardness surveys
- Create beneficial customer relationship through accurate and timely communication
- Utilize tools and methodology to help create solutions to problems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical engineering, Material Science, or related field
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented
- A self-directed mindset with the ability to work under minimal supervision is critical to this position
- Able to effectively communicate questions and differences between common problems and unique situations
- Ability to organize work and to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently to meet deadlines is essential to this position
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Work well in group solving situations
- Knowledge and compliance of workplace health and safety standards
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a laboratory and testing environment
Working Conditions
- Typical working hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, although extended hours and weekend shifts may be required on occasion
- Work will be performed primarily in lab and occasionally onsite at client facility
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time while performing the job responsibilities. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
