FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Grammar School

Work Hours/Days: M-F, School days, and professional development days

Desired Start Date: August 1, 2024*

*Please note all teachers will need to be able to attend teacher training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. Travel to the conference, lodging, and food are covered by ACA and Hillsdale.

Job Summary:

ACADC School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Grammar School Teacher to join our team. This position will involve preparing and delivering a classical curriculum aligned with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide. The ideal candidate will use classical pedagogy methods to teach a variety of subjects, including Singapore Math, Well Ordered Language, writing, literature, poetry, history, and science. This role requires fostering collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, parents, and students to support their academic and personal growth.

Essential Functions:

As a Grammar School Teacher at ACADC, you will:

  • Develop and implement unit and lesson plans for subjects such as Singapore Math, Well Ordered Language, writing, literature, poetry, history, and science.
  • Mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods, and guide them in their pursuit of excellence.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with faculty, staff, and parents, actively seeking collaborative relationships with parents to support student development.
  • Model moral character in line with the school's core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful.
  • Assign, collect, grade, and return student work in a timely manner, and proctor tests during the annual testing cycle.
  • Continuously monitor student progress, self-evaluate teaching methods, and proactively identify and support struggling or advanced students.
  • Collaborate with the Student Services team to meet special educational requirements such as IEPs and 504 plans, and communicate regularly with parents, usually on a weekly basis.
  • Assist in daily school operations, including taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods, lunchtime, and recess on a shared schedule.
  • Participate in professional development offered by ACADC and Hillsdale College's K12 Office and maintain confidentiality in handling student records.
Position Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must have a Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Early Childhood Education (a Colorado Teaching license is not required). You should exhibit adherence and loyalty to ACADC's mission and vision and all school policies. The role requires excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, and the capability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Creative problem-solving skills are essential, and you must be eligible to work in the United States and pass a satisfactory background check as required by state law and the Colorado Department of Education. Additionally, you should be willing to perform other related duties as requested.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor activities.
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and school buildings.
