WIC Professional

Under general supervision of the Program Director, certifies eligibility of Program participants by determining nutritional risk for women who are pregnant up to 6 months postpartum breastfeeding up to 1year, as well as children from birth to age 5 years; provides and assures nutrition education to Program participants.

Functions as the competent professional authority for determination of program eligibility and certification: following assessment of individual anthropometric, biochemical, and dietary data, either certifies or denies participation in the Program on the basis of nutritional risk. Conducts any or all of the following procedures necessary for determining nutritional risk: measurement of length/height and weight, hemoglobin, completes required certification procedures in Focus (WIC software). Completes intake procedures for program applicants: interview applicants to obtain demographic information and determine income eligibility. Provides nutrition and health education in the areas of maternal and child health to WIC participants in accordance with Program guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule

Generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm

Qualifications 

  • B.A./B.S. degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, community nutrition, or closely related field OR RN current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing
  • If applicable, must maintain current Registered Nurse license. 
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Licensed or registered Dietitian preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
