Project Drafter

This is a full-time position working with the systems integration and rigging teams to provide design and submittal drawings required per job. A successful candidate will be a motivated individual who is interested in providing best-in-class customer service and has the technical skills to complete tasks on time and on budget.

Reports to: Director of Project Management

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall management of project drawings and submittals from concept to completion.
  • Review bid documents, plans, specifications, and estimating work-up sheets for both private and public bid projects and produce drawings and product data sheets that meet the plans and specifications.
  • Assist outside sales staff with detailed riser diagrams, equipment layouts, lighting calculations, and architectural lighting renderings.
  • Assist in the design and engineering of new equipment and devices that fulfill project requirements.
  • Submit all drawings and product data sheets to the project management for approval, and complete red-line corrections within specified timelines.
  • Participate and attend weekly project department and sales meetings.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with contractors, partners, representatives, specifiers, and other project stakeholders
  • Attend job-site meetings, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position requires no supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications and Education:

  • A Bachelor of Arts, or similar degree, in Technical Theatre is desirable.
  • Must have good communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must have excellent customer service skills (both written and verbal).
  • Good administrative skills, mathematical aptitude, and the ability to monitor small details are essential.
  • The qualified candidate must be flexible, self-guided, willing to learn, and capable of making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Overtime is required during critical times of the year. Overtime will be determined and managed by the department manager.
  • Computer experience is required, including Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and Excel. Revit experience is desired, but not required.
  • A can-do attitude with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of electrical riser diagrams, electrical power systems, dimming and control, theatrical lighting, entertainment lighting equipment, both motorized and manual theatrical rigging systems, pipe grids, curtain tracks, and curtain systems is required.
  • Must have good communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must have excellent customer service skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must be able to pass local, state, school, and federal background checks, as required by the project.
  • Must be able to pass a 7-panel drug screen.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires occasional training for site meetings or training. Mileage and applicable expenses will be reimbursed by VLS for these trips.
