Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB TITLE: Fire Extinguisher Technician

SUMMARY: The Fire Extinguisher Technician inspects and services portable fire extinguishers for customers. The technician will drive to customer sites to perform service on the extinguishers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Test, inspect and service portable fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment and monitoring devices in accordance with NFPA, local and state codes
  • Inspect, service and repair emergency exit lighting systems at customer locations
  • Complete inspection reports online
  • Hydro-test high pressure cylinders as needed
  • Dismantle extinguishers and examine mechanical parts, extinguishing agents and expelling means; replace worn or damaged parts
  • Clean extinguishers and recharge them with approved materials
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required:  MA Certificate of Competency 46 – license for portable fire extinguishers
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes a plus
  • Hydrostatic certificate preferred
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • OSHA 10 card

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The employee must continually lift and/or move 10-20 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
