POSITION: Coating Process Engineer

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.

STATUS: Salary exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Engineer experienced in coating systems and manufacturing processes for gas turbine components. This knowledge will be used to assess and qualify coating suppliers and assist PSM design engineering in coating selection and quality requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Primary technical focal point with coating suppliers to direct Process Development and Qualification of coating efforts associated with the fabrication of IGT (Industrial Gas Turbine) hardware.
  • Conduct process reviews at coating suppliers to ensure compliance with fixed processes as established for specific components.
  • Conduct coating supplier quality assessments and audits.
  • Provide appropriate documentation for process approvals upon completion.
  • Create and maintain coating specifications that provide technical, quality, and qualification requirements.
  • Be the primary technical focal point at coating suppliers to aide in non-conformance cause identification and enforce corrective action implementation.
  • Communicate both internally and externally to keep management, suppliers, and Integrated Product Team (IPT) members informed of activity. Communicate to management significant issues or barriers that may prevent the successful completion of the task.
  • Guide Manufacturing and Design Engineers to ensure appropriate coating selection and requirements are achievable in production.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives.
  • Work within the IPT environment to identify new materials and manufacturing processes to improve hardware Life Cycle Cost.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with combination of applicable experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering field preferred.

Skills/Experience

  • Detailed knowledge of turbo machinery coating uses:
    1. Oxidation protection
    2. Thermal insulation
    3. Wear applications
    4. Dimensional restoration
    5. Corrosion protection
    6. Sealing
  • Detailed knowledge of turbo machinery protective coating manufacturing processes:
    1. APS thermal spray
    2. HVOF thermal spray
    3. Wire arc spray
    4. Aluminide (pack cementation, vapor phase, slurry, chemical vapor deposition)
    5. Cathodic Arc
  • Strong communication, decision making, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with turbo machinery components and blueprint interpretation
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of gas turbine operation and engine assembly is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Travel is required, domestic and international is necessary (possession of, or ability to acquire passport is required).
