Job Summary:

The Carpenter, Welding position is based at the Leonard [Insert Plant Location] Plant, with operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for operating woodworking machinery, fabricating wood components, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining equipment to support the production of Leonard. This position reports directly to the Plant Supervisor and has 0 direct reports.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Constructs, assembles, and repairs wooden structures, such as sheds, frameworks, and components, according to specifications and blueprints. Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
  • Performs welding tasks on metal structures and components, including cutting, joining, and repairing metal parts using various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding. Ensure all welds meet company standards and industry regulations.
  • Interprets and works from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the materials and tools required for each project. Plan and layout projects, ensuring accuracy and precision in all work.
  • Selects and prepares materials needed for each project, ensuring proper storage and handling to maintain material quality and safety.
  • Operates and maintains carpentry and welding tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and used safely and effectively.
  • Inspects completed work to ensure it meets the company’s quality standards and specifications. Identify and address any defects or issues promptly.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe and clean work environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and participate in safety training sessions.
  • Works closely with other team members, including carpenters, welders, and supervisors, to complete projects efficiently and effectively. Communicate progress and any issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Stays informed about new techniques, tools, and materials in both carpentry and welding. Seek opportunities for professional development and skills enhancement.
Requirements:

Competencies (skills, knowledge, and abilities):

  • Proficiency in using carpentry and welding tools and equipment, including saws, drills, welding machines, and measuring devices.
  • Strong understanding of construction and welding principles, techniques, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and strength, with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various environments, including outdoors and at heights.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of work.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in carpentry and welding are preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in carpentry and welding, with a proven track record of high-quality work.
