Job Summary:

Katz JCC Parkinson’s Connection Instructors are responsible for providing energetic, professional instruction in a welcoming atmosphere. Compassion and empathy for this specialized population should be reflected in all interactions with Parkinson’s Connection members, their families, caregivers, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Begin and end all classes on time.
  • Provide consistent high-level customer service.
  • Create varied exercise classes for a wide range of clients living with Parkinson's disease.
  • Demonstrate and encourage correct warm-up, cool-down and stretching techniques to avoid injury.
  • Teach a wide range of clients of all ages based on their fitness capabilities. Adapt classes to work with clients who need special attention due to health concerns.
  • Handle knowledge of members’ health and personal information with respect, confidentiality and discretion.
  • Provide safe, enthusiastic, and professional instruction while following all health and safety regulations when working with Katz JCC equipment.
  • Work well with other JCC Staff members as part of the Parkinson’s Connection Coaching Team.
  • Acquire substitute instructors for any scheduled classes.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings, training, and development. This includes assistance with special events or fundraisers as needed.
  • Understand safety and emergency procedures (i.e., evacuation, fire alarm, health emergency).
  • Report any unclean conditions, safety hazards and malfunctioning of equipment immediately to Parkinson’s Connection Coordinator and Fitness Director.
  • Disseminate provided class announcements before every class. Promote all activities, events, training programs and services in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Take accurate attendance in every class.
  • Do not engage in any inappropriate conversations or bad language.
  • Additional responsibilities based upon the need of the Fitness & Wellness Department of the Katz JCC.

Required Licenses/ Certificates/Registrations:

  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Current Certification (Rock Steady, Personal Training, etc.) and continuing education credits specifically related to class taught.

Required Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 months prior experience as a Group Fitness Instructor or Parkinson’s Connection Volunteer/Member.
  • General knowledge of Parkinson’s Disease.
