Job Title: Patient Access Representative

Job Summary:

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for ensuring a seamless and efficient patient registration process. This role involves greeting patients, verifying insurance information, handling admissions, and facilitating patient flow. The representative serves as a primary point of contact for patients and their families, providing excellent customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Registration:

    • Greet and check-in patients upon arrival.
    • Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
    • Obtain necessary signatures and consents for treatment.
    • Enter patient information accurately into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  2. Insurance Verification:

    • Verify insurance coverage and benefits for patients.
    • Communicate with insurance companies to confirm eligibility and obtain authorization for services.
    • Inform patients of any co-pays, deductibles, or out-of-pocket expenses.
  3. Admissions and Scheduling:

    • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
    • Schedule appointments and procedures as needed.
    • Ensure that patients are informed of their appointment details and any pre-appointment requirements.
  4. Customer Service:

    • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families.
    • Address patient questions, concerns, and complaints promptly and courteously.
    • Assist patients with navigating the hospital or clinic facilities.
  5. Financial Responsibilities:

    • Collect and process patient payments, including co-pays and outstanding balances.
    • Provide cost estimates for procedures and services.
    • Explain billing procedures and financial policies to patients.
  6. Compliance and Confidentiality:

    • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  7. Communication and Coordination:

    • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Relay patient information and updates to the appropriate personnel.
  8. Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
    • Perform regular audits of patient information to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in patient registration or admissions.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Customer service-oriented with a friendly and professional demeanor.
