Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the WIC Director/ Peer Counselor Coordinator is responsible for communicating with WIC participants on an individual basis, teaching breastfeeding education classes, presenting accurate information, documenting and keeping accurate records, and exhibiting a desire and enthusiasm about breastfeeding and able to model good parenting and breastfeeding skills. Responsible for compliance with other requirements impacting United Medical Centers such as State/Federal regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA), Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Optimizing Comprehensive Clinical Care (OC3), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Meaningful Use, Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Standards, and Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance (QI/QA) and Americans with Disabilities Acts (ADA) Requirements. Requirements:EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Must complete a 20-hour training provided by the WIC Breastfeeding Promotion Coordinator/IBCLC. Must have experience in successfully breastfeeding at least one baby required.
