Job Title: Operating Room Charge Nurse (OR Charge RN)

Location: Greenvale, NY

Type: Full-Time

Department: Surgical Services

Salary: $125,000 to $130,000 annually

Sign-on Bonus: $3,500 (paid in two installments post-hire)

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, day shifts
  • Occasional Saturday required (once per month)
  • No major holidays

Job Summary:


The OR Charge Nurse plays a pivotal leadership role in managing the Surgical Services department. This position involves overseeing the daily operations of the OR, providing direct supervision and support to the surgical team, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, and maintaining the highest level of patient care.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the surgical team, enhancing operational efficiency and patient care quality.
  • Manage human resources aspects within the OR, including staff selection, orientation, education, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by initiating quality management and evidence-based practice enhancements.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety and infection control standards.
  • Develop and manage the department's operational and capital budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among staff, physicians, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Promote patient-centered care by leading by example in delivering compassionate and comprehensive nursing care.
  • Oversee staff competency and professional development, ensuring all team members are well-trained and equipped to meet the demands of their roles.
  • Respond to patient and family concerns, ensuring high satisfaction and quality care outcomes.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and connections by participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations.


Qualifications:


  • BSN from an accredited nursing program (required).
  • Current NYS RN license (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an OR setting; orthopedic experience strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year in a supervisory or charge nurse role within a surgical or OR setting.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS and PALS certifications or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage clinical and non-clinical situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage and motivate a team.
