THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an Application Technician to support pre- and post-processing production of 3D printed customer-related products.  This person will work extensively with our state-of-the-art 3D printers as we work to create and validate customer applications.  The position is ideal for someone who excels in complex problem solving and has a keen eye for detail and quality.  This individual will be responsible for operating 3D printers, finishing of printed parts and will maintain the lab and printers to ensure an optimal print environment. As primary job responsibilities the Application Technician will:
  • Own printer preparation and operation process including dispensing resin, preparing build plates, setting up tools and consumables, and running prints. 
  • Handle removal of printed objects and prepare the printer for subsequent use.
  • Post process printed parts, including support removal and ensuring appropriate, sequential steps and timing are followed. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe production environment, including lab equipment and tools.
  • Perform finishing and inspection on printed parts.
  • Conduct basic maintenance on the printers and post processing units.
  • Perform other duties that propel Azul 3D’s mission and goals or contribute to our organizational values, safety, and culture. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Additive Manufacturing.
  • Mechanically inclined with a passion for building and assembling.
  • Ability to troubleshoot 3D printing issues when there is an unexpected problem.
  • Experience using common hand and shop equipment, including drills and rotary sanders
  • Experience and/or comfort in a wet lab environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.

HOW YOU’LL REALLY STAND OUT     
  • Expertise in manufacturing and demonstrated success with multiple manufacturing methods.
  • Experience in an early stage, tech-focused environment.
  • Experience with CAD and slicing software (Fusion 360, NetFabb or similar)
  • Experience with 3D printers and design for additive manufacturing.

BIG PICTURE: FIRST 6 MONTHS @ AZUL 3D

Within one month, you will: 
  • Understand Azul’s core technologies, technology roadmap, printers, and business strategy.   
  • Socialize with the cross-functional team, understanding each person’s area of expertise and skills spanning the hardware, software, materials, and product applications teams. 
  • Understand how to use the Azul 3D printers and begin running pre- and post-production processes for printers with supervision.
 
Within three months, you will: 
  • Take ownership of the print preparation process including printing dispensing resin, setting up build plates and preparing tools.
  • Become a subject matter expert in printer operation and print process development.
  • Handle the removal of printed products, adjusting for subsequent prints and handling turn-around.
  • Handle post-processing of parts including support removal. 
  • Own preventative maintenance actions for the lab including printer and post-processing equipment cleaning and component replacement.

Within six months, you will: 
  • Perform finishing and inspection on production runs. 
  • Troubleshoot printing issues that arise.
  • Work with the team to develop and/or iterate processes for cleaning and maintaining printers and equipment.
