Active Minerals International (AMI) is a worldwide leader in specialty industrial minerals. The company specializes in the production and marketing of high purity kaolin and gel quality attapulgite clay minerals for fiberglass, concrete, plaster, paints, rubber and agriculture industries.
Position Summary:This position will perform routine lab tests as required to ensure customer shipments meet specifications, sufficient in-process testing is done to monitor and maintain process control, and crude testing is done according to standard procedures and as directed by supervisor. The technician will do additional testing as time permits for special project testing and problem troubleshooting. The technician may also perform other tasks as required to help in day-to-day operations as directed by supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Possess knowledge of plant specific lab test methods and perform them accurately as requested by supervisor.
- Accurately record data or enter into computer as required in a timely manner.
- Ensure instruments are calibrated and in good working condition.
- Possess knowledge of QMS procedures and maintain active participation in the QMS program.
- Authorize shipments to ship according to specifications.
- Follow non-conforming product procedures as required.
- Issue Certificate of Analysis (COA) as required for customers.
- Take samples as required in the plant or mine area.
- Troubleshoot problems to help determine root cause and initiate solutions.
- Work on back log samples as time allows so that results are obtained as soon as possible.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment at the beginning of each shift, as required.
- Adhere to all QMS procedures and documentation as applicable to position and department, and as required by ISO.
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting a plus.
- Ability to learn quickly and perform work accurately with minimal supervision.
- Team Oriented.
- Strong analytical, computer and problem solving skills. Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be safety conscious and lead by example.
- Initiative in all aspects of job, continually looking for ways to improve the quality and safety aspects of Active Minerals.
- Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Work is performed in a production environment. Position requires lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying up to 55 lbs. on a regular basis. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop and climb up to 70 feet. Able to operate hand and foot controls simultaneously. Manual dexterity required for operation of hand controls and/or computer keyboard. Vision and a sense of hearing are also required.
