The Resident Teacher is responsible for observing, learning from and partnering with a Mentor Teacher and the Director of Teacher Residency. The incumbent will gradually assume teaching responsibility for at least one class over the course of two years.

Residents will agree to a three-year commitment that consists of an initial residency year of teacher preparation, followed by a one-year post-certification commitment to teach with the Kindezi Schools. During the first two years Residents will also complete coursework with the Relay Graduate School of Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Class Apprenticeship:
    • Observes the Mentor Teacher and assists the Mentor Teacher in the classroom. As the program progresses, the Resident will assume duties of the Lead Teacher based on a gradual release timeline.
    • Participates in an informal meeting with the Mentor Teacher after each class that the Resident teaches for the purpose of debriefing and for the Mentor Teacher to provide effective feedback for improvement.
    • Meets weekly to plan and develop instruction and assessments with Mentor Teacher.
    • Discusses assessment practices with the Mentor Teacher and maintains primary responsibility (with feedback from Mentor Teacher) for assessing students in where he/she is the Lead Teacher.
  • Coursework:
    • 100% timely attendance for all courses with selected partner which includes:
    • Completion of certification program (Year 2)
    • Completes, maintains, and collects work throughout the year in a timely manner.
    • Through course projects, engages in meaningful activities at the school level to deepen Resident’s knowledge. This includes data collection and analysis, descriptive reviews of students, curriculum study and planning, etc.
    • Shows measurable progression against the program specific evaluation rubric.
  • Commits to teach in a Kindezi school and engage families in high needs communities for at least three years (one year beyond the two-year residency).
  • Attends all mandatory Resident meetings, as well as school-based meetings.
  • Attends training during the summer, prior to the start of the Residency year.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
  • Participates in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Strong communication skills and follow-through.

  • High level of maturity and responsibility.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

  • Starting Annual Salary: $35,000
  • Teacher Retirement System (TRS) pension, 403b plan, paid time off, vacation, health, vision, and dental insurance, employer-paid life insurance, and short and long-term disability benefits.
