Job DescriptionJob Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fabrication Technologist to join our team. As a Fabrication Technologist, you will be responsible for taking concepts to design to fabrication. This will require use of CAD/CAM software, CNC programming, 3D printing, mechanical fabrication techniques, knowledge of materials such as metals and plastics, and a creative and solution generation mindset. You will work closely with the development and program team and contribute to the fabrication of mission specific products.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in fabrication and CNC machining, with knowledge of different materials and experience with various CNC programs. A post high school degree or certification and demonstrated experience is required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team are essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain CNC machines to perform tasks such as cutting, drilling, and shaping materials
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of fabricated parts by monitoring machine operations and making necessary adjustments
  • Collaborate with the fabrication team to develop efficient work processes and improve production capabilities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that may arise during the fabrication process
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the required specifications and visual standards
  • Maintain and update documentation related to CNC programs, machine parameters, and other relevant information
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with additional technical certification/training or equivalent job experience
  • Associates degree a plus
  • Proven experience as a Fabrication Technologist or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of materials used in fabrication, such as metals and plastics
  • Proficient in operating CNC machines, 3D printers, and other fabrication equipment and processes including machine programming and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and ability to read and interpret technical drawings, as well as conceptualizing concepts for items for fabrication
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure the quality of fabricated items
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the overall success of the fabrication team
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government-issued security clearance or already have an active clearance. (A background investigation, fingerprinting and drug test will be required by the Federal government to obtain a security clearance if not already in possession of one, and periodic reinvestigations will be required on 5- or 10-year basis depending on clearance level obtained.)
  • Completion of a separate company pre-employment background check and drug test

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher with relevant fabrication experience
  • Active DOE security clearance

Physical Requirements

  • Will be fabricating items working in a fabrication/machine shop. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for periods of time operating machines, squat, bend, and use general mechanical tools and equipment.

Working Conditions

  • On-site operational environment with normal 8hr/day, 5-day work week. Occasional special circumstances may require some flexibility of days worked.
