Position Summary:

The Farm Lead assists with coordination of daily farming activities including irrigation, tractor work, weed spraying, grove and asset maintenance using best farm practices in a timely manner. This position ensures daily farm activities meet company standards and maintain employee safety and food safety regulations. The role is essential to support organizational goals and model best practices, guided by our values of Excellence, Accountability, Transparency and Stewardship (EATS).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Citrus Farm Manager with coordination of daily assigned farm labor activities of team members, such as irrigation, fertilization, tractor work, weed spraying, tree spraying, planting, painting, and grove and building maintenance.
  • Ensures that employees perform work as instructed using proper methods that meets company quality standards.
  • Ensures equipment such as hand tools, gloves and personal protective equipment is properly issued, used, and returned.
  • Ensures appropriate maintenance of farm assets, and equipment.
  • Attends safety meetings with employees; assists managers in demonstrating and training employees to work safely; promotes company safety programs and enforces safety rules and policy.
  • Assists Shop Manager to ensure equipment is maintained and kept in working order.
  • Assists Citrus Farm Manager with supervision of frost protection activities on assigned farms.
  • Assists Citrus Farm Manager in recruiting quality crew members who meet or exceed company standards.
  • Communicates and cooperates with other departments (Harvest, Spray, Shop, Admin) to achieve maximum efficiencies of all operations.
  • Assists in other departments as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Lead Responsibilities:

  • Delegates and coordinates tasks of team members
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • No direct reports
  • Partners with safety to promote a positive safety culture.
Requirements:

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily, including all important aspects of the job- whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually; and any duty that occurs at irregular intervals.   • Knowledge and understanding of citrus farming.
  • Ability to coordinate various crews on any given day.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and can perform multiple tasks with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to fill out and maintain a daily crew work sheet including equipment.
  • Ability to learn location of blocks and get to know and communicate with the growers.
  • Ability to work long hours/weekends during the harvest season.
  • Ability to understand and effectively follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with fellow employees and management.
  • Ability to delegate and coordinate tasks of a team.
  • Ability to focus and complete duties in a timely manner.
  • Self- directed individual who can identify solutions with team input.
  • Self-driven, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and actively promotes company Illness & Injury Prevention Program and farm safety policies.
  • Supports and promotes company and departmental values and goals.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience working in farming/growing operations
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Company’s insurance carrier
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Bilingual verbal and written English/Spanish
