JOB TITLE: Volunteer Park Host JOB STATUS: Volunteer
SALARY GRADE: Volunteer - Unpaid FLSA Exempt: No
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Perform a variety of duties as a park host. Immerse yourself in the park system while being a steward to help protect the park and provide an excellent experience for visitors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below include, but are not limited to, the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. Volunteers are expected to follow all applicable City policies and established safety rules and procedures.
1. Reside in the campground while performing these responsibilities and comply with the City rules and policies.
2. Advise campers of minor violations and needed corrective measures; give them a copy of the park rules and suggest the user obey the rules. If the problem persists, contact a park employee or the police department for enforcement. Report any major violations or emergencies to law enforcement or park staff as required.
3. Serve as liaisons between park users and park staff.
4. Notify park staff immediately of any maintenance issues so that they can be quickly resolved.
5. Assist visitors by providing information about the park facilities and/or rules, camping, points of interest, and other such related topics.
6. Monitor compliance with campground and park rules and be familiar with the reasoning behind these rules.
7. Set an example by being model campers, practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around their campsite, and observing all rules.
8. Keep the restrooms, showers, and shelters clean at all times. Restrooms and showers should be cleaned at approximately the same time each day.
9. Sell shower tokens.
10. Add, modify, and/or process park reservations in web-based reservation program and monitor the online system for upcoming reservations to ensure camp sites are ready for incoming campers.
11. Answer park phone and take reservations as necessary.
12. Keep record of occupied and reserved sites, monitor campground traffic, and direct campers and park users to vacant sites.
13. Look for and pick up litter, including trash around trashcans, empty full trashcans by placing full bags in the dumpster, including dog stations.
14. Weekly and after each rental, clean and empty ash and debris from fire pits and barbeque stands. Clean RV Pad and camp area to ensure it is free from trash, leaves, grass, and other debris.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Have a self-contained recreational vehicle. (Applicants will be required to submit a picture of their recreational vehicle. All recreational vehicles must be well maintained, operational, and self-contained.)
- Must provide and maintain proof of insurance coverage on your RV & vehicle parked on site.
- Pets of hosts are welcome, but hosts must obey park pet rules. Pets must have a current rabies vaccination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION: The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this classification. 1. While performing the duties of this position, you may be required to occasionally sit, stand, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. The position requires mobility.
2. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
3. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as a phone, computer keyboard, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usual outdoor working conditions. The noise level is typical of most outdoor recreational environments. May be required to work in various weather conditions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Parks Crew Chief.
