Ultrasound Sonographer I

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated sonographer to assist our doctors with diagnosing and monitoring various conditions. You will use high-frequency sound waves to take images of the body’s internal organs and tissues. You will work directly with patients and use the sonographic equipment to record images of the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses.

Supervision Received: Reports to Manager of Diagnostics.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves sitting, standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and pay attention to detail.

Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

Responsibilities: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of practice for the sonographer and competency in diagnostic procedures; abdomen, small parts, GYN, breast, and Vascular; ensuring clear images for diagnostic purposes and making adjustments to the sonographic equipment when necessary.

  1. Selecting and examining images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determining if the scope of the exam should be extended, based on preliminary findings and presenting those preliminary findings to the radiologists.

  1. Provides documentation of individual patient care according to history and clinical information obtained from ultrasound study and quality assurance documentation as defined in the policy and procedure manual.

  1. Explains appropriately the rationale for ultrasound procedures to patients, answering questions, preparing patients by applying the gel to the skin, and positioning the patients on the table.

  1. Recognizes changes in patient status and appropriately communicates to physician.

  1. Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis depending on the type of procedure being done.
