Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our laboratory team in Rapid City, SD. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in processing tissue specimens for pathological analysis, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment and contribute to patient care through the accurate and timely preparation of histological slides.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, accession, and label tissue specimens accurately, ensuring proper identification and tracking throughout the processing workflow.
- Perform tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain histology equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, embedding stations, and staining machines, to ensure optimal performance and quality results.
- Prepare histological slides for microscopic examination by pathologists, including mounting, coverslipping, and labeling slides according to laboratory standards.
- Perform special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures as needed, following specific protocols and quality control measures.
- Monitor quality control parameters, troubleshoot technical issues, and take corrective actions to ensure the accuracy and reliability of histological slides.
- Maintain accurate records of specimen processing, staining protocols, and equipment maintenance activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and laboratory policies.
- Assist pathologists and other laboratory staff in the interpretation and analysis of histological slides, providing support as needed for diagnosis and research purposes.
- Adhere to safety protocols and infection control practices to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs to stay current with advances in histology techniques, technology, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certifying agency preferred.
- Prior experience working as a Histology Technician or in a histology laboratory setting is highly desirable.
- Strong technical skills in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining histology equipment and instruments, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
- Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures, safety practices, and quality assurance principles.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality results and providing exceptional service to patients, clinicians, and laboratory stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support laboratory operations and meet patient care needs.
