Life University seeks a learner-centered, collaborative, and innovative leader to join its campus and serve its learners and community as its next Dean of the College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies (CGUS). The Dean reports to the Provost serves as a leader at the institution. The Dean provides academic, intellectual, strategic, and administrative leadership for CGUS as well as the College of Online Education (COE) and is responsible for its effective administration. The Dean works with key stakeholders, both inside and outside of the College, to advocate for the College’s mission to empower students to achieve successful careers and meaningful lives, based on a vitalistic philosophy that promotes optimum performance and transformational leadership, to produce a positive impact in a dynamic world.

Responsibilities

The Dean facilitates an environment that supports and promotes the faculty’s commitment to learning and engagement. The Dean champions excellence in teaching, faculty scholarship and service to the university and the community. The Dean, in partnership with the faculty, is responsible for academic program evaluation and review; accreditation of select programs; faculty recruitment and development; evaluation of faculty members and staff; and learner relations.

The Dean is responsible, in cooperation with the Provost, for academic and administrative planning; budgeting; administration and implementation of college and university policies; and external relations. The Dean works collaboratively with the administration, and with other deans and leaders to set and accomplish strategic goals for CGUS/COE in alignment with Life’s academic identity and its strategic framework and process.

The incoming Dean will have the opportunity to build on the excellence within CGUS/COE. Enhancing access and opportunity for learners, faculty, and staff will be essential. Developing programs to best serve the region and the state will also be crucial to the success of the new Dean.

  • Provides overall leadership, working with the faculty and staff, and other stakeholders, to achieve established goals/objectives and support for the mission of the college, and the university.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of academic program curricula.
  • Responsible for college/program meeting all applicable student achievement thresholds; regularly and systematically evaluates and provides analysis for undergraduate and graduate academic program(s) in relation to applicable student achievement thresholds (i.e. retention rates, graduation rates, and demonstration of competency outcomes).
  • Work in collaboration to support student recruitment, retention, and timely degree completion.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of academic policies
  • Oversee academic policies and procedures pertaining to faculty, staff, and students
  • Work with the other deans and appropriate stakeholders on assigned projects which impact the student’s overall academic experience.
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate administrators to develop, manage, and administer the curricula, faculty, budgetary, assessment and accreditation needs for the classroom, lab, and clinic as appropriate
  • Attract, develop, and retain the highest quality faculty and staff.
  • Provide leadership in the area of faculty, administrative and staff development and professional growth.
  • Assists with preparation of assessments and reports necessary for regional and programmatic accreditation.
  • Supervises the Associate/Assistant Deans in COE and CGUS.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • 10 years’ experience as a faculty or administrator in related education/field.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a high-level administrative capacity within higher education.
  • Experience working collaboratively in an environment of shared governance.
  • Thorough knowledge of higher education structures, practices, and procedures related to the administration of college operations.
