Summary

Position Title:Early Childhood Education and Assistance (ECEAP) Teacher Assistant/Family Health Aide
Reports

Status:Regular
Non-Exempt

Salary: $19.29 - $22.55 per hour depending on qualifications.
A wage enhancement of $1.00/hour will be added for the regular
use of Spanish in this position. An additional .50/hour is added for the
regular use of third language beyond English and Spanish.
Position works 8 hrs/day, 5 days per week during the school year,

Purpose of Position:
The job ECEAP Teacher Assistant/Family Health Aid is done for the purpose/s of acting as a support and resource to the families; assisting the teacher with classroom planning and management; attending home visits with teacher; assisting with the health component under the direction of Center Supervisor including providing health and nutritional information to parents, assisting with health screenings and referrals as needed, and following up with families regarding health information for children; encouraging parent involvement in the program; documenting child progress/activities/outcomes; and maintaining a safe classroom environment both physically and emotionally.

Applications will begin being reviewed on August 12th and the position will remain open until filled.

Duties

Essential Functions:
Coordinates with Center Supervisor in assisting families with basic health needs for the purpose of providing resources to the family as may be required.
Assists in the planning and implementation of classroom activities for the purpose of creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans to meet individual and group needs.
Assists in the instruction of children and parents (e.g. nutrition, self-care, social, motor skills, language skills, etc.) for the purpose of optimizing development of each child and helping to enhance parenting skills.
Assists the teacher in the assessment of each child's developmental level for the purpose of documenting progress and working with the teacher to support each child's development.
Coordinates with Center Supervisor for the purpose of maintaining and assembling children's health files and assisting families with basic health care.
Assumes the lead role in the classroom and planning when the teacher is not present for the purpose of ensuring a conducive learning environment.
Attends community planning meetings when classroom teacher is unable to attend for the purpose of gathering and/or conveying information.
Attends various educational workshops, seminars, in-services, on-going evaluation process, reviewing the position plan, etc. for the purpose of maintaining their professional knowledge.
Conducts home visits with assigned families as per program requirements (e.g. reviewing status of medical and dental exams, etc.) for the purpose of sharing information and resources with the family.
Contributes to the team for the purpose of collaborating, defining and clarifying roles and expectations with coworkers and cooperating with other program staff to maintain quality.
Monitors supplies for first aid, dental and nutritional materials, maintaining stock as needed.
Implements lesson plans and assists staff for the purpose of helping to enrich and maintain a safe environment both physically as well as emotionally and working with parent(s) to identify child's focus areas and documenting progress.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. student files, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reliable information, and complying with District, State and Federal requirements.
Monitors children's activities (e.g. classroom, snacks/lunch, playground, bus runs, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of children.
Participates in various on site and off site work related program activities (e.g. family staffing, behavior plans, staff training, planning, communication and evaluation activities, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information related to program plans.
Assists with health screens (e.g. vision, hearing, height/weight, strabismus, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that children who have not been fully screened by a health care provider are screened and/or referred as required.
Prepares health records for the purpose of documenting child's health history and conveying information as may be required.
Prepares records (e.g. classroom activities, individual child observations, program records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting family and child activities as described in the work plan.
Tracks ongoing detailed health information on children for the purpose of ensuring services are delivered in conformance with program standards.
Travels off site for the purpose of performing tasks necessary to support center and/or program operations.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required upon hire and
  • Initial or higher Washington State Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate; or
  • DCYF equivalent
  • If the best candidate for the position is not fully qualified, the successful candidate will be placed on a Professional Development Plan (PDP)to fully meet the qualifications of their role within five years from the date of hire




Experience: One year experience working and/or volunteering in early childhood programs; experience with ECEAP, Head Start, and/or other state Pre-K programs preferred.


Special Requirements: The successful candidate must comply with all program standards by providing proof of or obtaining upon hire: a recent negative TB test; an Infant/Child CPR/First Aid card; a Food Handler's Permit; a current DCYF Portable Background Check required before starting; and meet all health, immunization and training requirements per federal, state or local laws and regulations.


Knowledge of:Early childhood education practices and techniques


Skilled in:Communicating effectively orally and in writing; dealing with children and families in a positive and confident manner; establishing effective working relationships with diverse groups and individuals.


Ability to:Maintain and update knowledge and skills required for success in the position by participating in professional development; Handle highly stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner; Interpret and implement policies and regulations; Work independently and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality; Exercise tact and discretion in all employee interactions; Use a computer for written communication, data entry, and report creation.


Working conditions:The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this position; Work is performed mostly in office settings. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment;

Physical requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear; frequently required to stand or walk, stoop; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate-to-noisy.
