JOB TITLE: Choir Director (Saddlebrooke) Part-Time
REPORTS TO: Saddlebrook Pastor
CHOIR DIRECTOR JOB PURPOSE:
The Choir Director at Saddlebrooke provides leadership and direction to the choir, the pianist/accompanist and to musicians providing special music for worship services at Saddlebrooke.
CHOIR DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and selects appropriate music for worship services in consultation with the pastor. Edits and arranges music as needed.
- Prepares for choir rehearsals.
- Provides leadership to the Saddlebrooke choir, including.
- Recruiting new choir members.
- Holding weekly choir rehearsals.
- Directing the choir during worship.
- Communicating necessary information to choir members via email; and
- Instilling a sense of community among choir members.
4. Plans and schedules special soloists or instrumentalists. As needed, rehearses with musicians providing special music.
5. Supervises the Saddlebrooke pianist/accompanist.
6. Picks up and returns music to the RLC Oro Valley music office.
7. Attends monthly staff meetings.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
CHOIR DIRECTOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Degree or relevant coursework in choral conducting or music or equivalent experience
2. Minimum of three years of experience directing a choir, preferably in a church.
3. High level of overall musicianship.
CHOIR DIRECTOR SKILLS AND TALENTS:
1. A clear testimony of faith and a vital, personal and growing relationship with Christian beliefs evidenced by attitude and behavior.
2. Knowledge of church music literature in a liturgical church setting
3. Knowledge of effective rehearsal techniques and vocal techniques.
4. Ability to interact and maintain positive working relationships with other musicians of all levels.
5. Ability to work as a team player, with good interpersonal skills.
6.. Ability to speak and provide directions clearly.
7. Instrumental skills on piano preferred.
CHOIR DIRECTOR WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be available to work variable hours including weekends and evenings.
- Must pass a background check.
3. Ability to hear and differentiate sounds.
4. Ability to move the limbs and has the coordination necessary to conduct music.
5. Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time.
