Overview
The Staff Accountant II is responsible for performing intermediate level accounting, management reporting, and financial tasks for Northern Arizona Healthcare. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Staff Accountant level by the expertise performed with regards to the full range of duties as assigned, and completed with minimal assistance or direction. Incumbents are thoroughly familiar and possess a technical expertise related to financial management procedures. This position performs intermediate to advanced accounting responsibilities, including complex technical analysis and preparation of sophisticated accounting reports
Responsibilities
Financial Statement Preparation/Review* Prepares interim and annual financial statements for the corporation and its entities.* Compiles, prepares, and posts monthly general journal entries and makes other adjustments as necessary to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements.
* Reviews draft financial statements and trend reports of revenue and expenses.
* Prepares and analyzes operating ledgers and financial reports.
* Assists Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller with unusual trends or problem areasCommunication & Support* Assists the Financial Operations department in documenting and revising policies and procedures.
* Provides accounting information and assistance to department staff and management.
* Provides support to Financial Operations staff with research and document control.
* Reports abnormal variances in account activity to the Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller.
* Coordinates meetings and work groups with key members and assists department Directors, Managers, and staff in implementing action plans.
• Works directly with Human Resources, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Business Intelligence and Financial Planning as needed to executive their workAccount Reconciliations* Prepares reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts, including corporate cash and investments.
* Prepares bank and other account reconciliations on a monthly basis and analyzes as appropriate to ensure accuracy of general ledger accountsTax/Audit Preparation* Prepares audit work papers as assigned and provides full cooperation with external auditors.
* Assists in preparing Form 990 tax information returns to meet relevant deadlinesOther Accounting-Related Projects• Assists in the preparation of annual reporting for the Medicare Cost Report, Uniform Accounting Report, Finance-related surveys, etc.
• Owns financial stewardship of one or more Northern Arizona Healthcare entities.
• Performs various ad hoc projects/related duties.
• Plays key role in driving month-end close efficiencies (i.e. decrease the number of days to close the period)
• Understands the concepts of cost accounting and works with departments directly to educate concepts and explain results on a frequent basis (i.e. monthly
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Mathematics - RequiredExperience: * Minimum 3 years of Accounting/Finance experience - Required* Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills - Required
* Experience with accounting systems administration - Preferred
* Previous healthcare experience - Preferred
* Experience working in a integrated care delivery system (IDS) - Preferred
