This position works Year Round, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, total of 40 hours/week.


Job Summary: Under general supervision. Provide classroom and community-integrated supports to students with developmental disabilities and or Autism. Ensure students can adjust to the transition academy learning environment, adhere to classroom instructional norms and assignments; and help them sharpen essential skills needed to live on their own and secure a competitive workforce wage.

Essential Functions

1. Highly developed organizational, time management, human relations and interpersonal communication and writing skills; self-motivated, flexible, and creative.

2. Experience with coaching and coordinating in an academic and vocational classroom setting and with community activities.

3. Work closely with Applied Academic Program Instructors and Work-Based learning staff.

4. Knowledgeable understanding of life and workforce development skills.

5. Able to multi-task and solve problems.

6. Able to utilize assistive technologies

7. Knowledge of incident reporting.

8. Case Management.

9. Counsel students related to life matters.

10. Knowledgeable in handling crisis and medical emergency situations within a classroom or other learning environment(s), as it relates to I/DD and Autism.

11. Provides transportation when necessary.

12.Assist with quarterly academy assemblies and graduation.

13. Ability to be flexible and complete tasks as unforeseen events arise.

14. Model, mentor, and motivate the value of appropriate and effective independent living standards and workforce success.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or associate degree and experience directly related to the essential functions specified.
  • 3 or more years of experience with assisting in a special education classroom preferred.
  • 2 or more years of work experience in Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.
  • 3 or more years of experience working directly and successfully with adults having autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Operating knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other department software.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • CPR/First Aid (not mandatory but a plus)
  • Ability to participate in physical activity.
  • Ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Light to moderate lifting.
