Job Title: ESL Program Manager

Supervisor’s Title: Academic Dean/VP of Academics/Director of Academics

Department: Academics

General Summary: The Program Manager is responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and developing the faculty within one or more programs as well as for the delivery of the approved curriculum. The Program Manager works with academic leadership and faculty to ensure student academic successes and retention.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assess hiring needs per assigned programs

• Recruit and hire faculty for ESL programs

• Train, mentor, and monitor faculty

• Maintain faculty files for all assigned programs

• Conduct regular faculty meetings

• Coordinate events and build community resources

• Advise students on satisfactory academic progress (SAP)

• Conduct classroom observations

• Organize campus events

• Actively contribute to program development and improvement

• Participate in curriculum review and evaluation

• Participate in orientation for new students

• Promote best practices in second language acquisition among faculty

• Assist with scheduling of courses and teaching assignments

• Assist with identifying trends in student academic success and create retention initiatives

• Ensure that assignment submission, test taking, and grading are completed correctly and on time

• Collaborate with academic leadership on maintaining accreditation requirements

• Other duties and special projects as assigned

Supervisory: This position directly supervises Faculty. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the fields of TESOL/TEFL, ESL, second language acquisition, linguistics/applied linguistics. At least two years relevant work experience in the education setting is required. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required, preferably in an academic setting.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Equipment/Computer Skills: Incumbent must be able to use the following equipment and software packages with proficiency:

• Microsoft Office Suite

• Basic internet usage & research skills

• Other technical skills as course requires
