Description of Duties

Mystic Seaport Museum is hiring Interpretation staff to specialize in the new Entwined Exhibit, focusing on Indigenous and African maritime stories and cultures. Interpreters in this gallery will participate in specialized training in order to fully prepare to guide and facilitate discussions around challenging subjects and histories.

This position is a specialized role within the museum’s team of interpreters. Candidates for this position may work primarily in the Entwined exhibit space, but there is also the opportunity to work with the public in a variety of hands on exhibits and interpretive spaces across the museum campus. Schedules may include hands on trades work, leading talks and tours across our museum campus, or teaching children and families in 19th century games on the village green. Candidates may indicate in their application if they are interested in more interpretation roles within the department, or if they prefer to work only in the Entwined Exhibit.

Position Requirements:


? Must be at least eighteen years of age

? Willingness to work at least one weekend day and on occasional holidays

? Excellent communication skills

? Willingness and commitment to participate in specialized training and research on Entwined subject matter and exhibit materials.

? Background in history, education, anthropology, or related field preferred
