JOB SUMMARY

The Airport Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), is a sworn Police Officer position that primarily supports the safety and security of the traveling public at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport and real property owned by the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission (Commission). This position provides law enforcement support to the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) mission at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport. The LEO focuses heavily on a positive customer experience through collaborative problem-solving and Community Policing principles. LEOs are required to monitor physical security systems and enforce 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 1520, 1540, and 1542, as well as the Commission's Airport Security Program. LEOs patrol and monitor Airport facilities for the protection of persons & property, enforcing applicable state and federal laws when necessary. LEOs support Commission objectives by assisting in the Commission's compliance with 14 CFR Part 139 as well as providing assistance and information to tenants and members of the public and perform other duties assigned by the Commission.


TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice preferred;
  • Virginia police academy graduation required;
  • Must meet and maintain requirements for DCJS Law Enforcement Certification required;
  • 3 years experience in law enforcement with a local, state, or federal police or sheriff's department preferred;

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have and maintain eligibility to possess a firearm;
  • Must meet and maintain TSA security requirements for unescorted access to the Airport's Security Identification Display Area(s) (SIDA), Sterile Area, and Airport Operations Area(s) (AOA;
  • Ability to meet and maintain the requirements of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for appointment as a Police Officer.
  • Must qualify to DCJS standards, and maintain qualification, with all firearms and weapons systems assigned to the Department.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, evening or night hours, and extended hours in order to meet the Department's mission. This position works a 12 hour shift from 5am-5pm.
