Job Description: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Location: Governor's Glen Memory Care Community, Forest Park, GA

Overview: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Governor's Glen Memory Care Community provides essential care and support to residents living with memory impairments. The CNA will assist with daily living activities, monitor health status, and ensure a safe, respectful, and dignified environment for all residents. This role involves working closely with the nursing and care teams to deliver high-quality, compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of each resident.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Patient Care:
    • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
    • Provide mobility support, including assisting with walking, transferring, and positioning residents.
    • Monitor and document residents' physical and emotional conditions, including changes in behavior, health status, and vital signs.
  2. Health and Safety:
    • Follow care plans and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
    • Report any concerns or changes in residents' health or behavior to the nursing staff promptly.
    • Assist with medication reminders and administer medications as directed by licensed nursing staff.
  3. Personal Interaction:
    • Build positive relationships with residents by engaging in meaningful conversations and activities.
    • Provide emotional support and comfort to residents, especially those experiencing anxiety or distress related to memory impairments.
    • Maintain a respectful and empathetic demeanor at all times, ensuring residents feel valued and cared for.
  4. Housekeeping and Maintenance:
    • Assist with light housekeeping duties, including cleaning resident rooms, changing bed linens, and ensuring a clean and safe environment.
    • Ensure that all equipment and supplies are properly stored and maintained.
  5. Documentation and Communication:
    • Accurately document care provided, changes in residents' conditions, and any incidents that occur.
    • Communicate effectively with the nursing team, residents, and their families to provide updates and address concerns.
  6. Team Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with other CNAs, nursing staff, and management to deliver coordinated care.
    • Participate in care plan meetings and contribute to the development and review of individualized care plans.
  7. Training and Development:
    • Attend mandatory training and continuing education programs to stay current with best practices in memory care and nursing assistance.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and skill enhancement.

Qualifications:

  • Certification and Education:
    • Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of Georgia.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience as a CNA, preferably in a memory care or long-term care setting, is desirable but not required.
    • Experience working with individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is a plus.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
    • Ability to handle the physical demands of the role, including lifting and transferring residents.
    • Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the needs of residents with memory impairments.
    • Proficiency in basic computer skills and documentation.
  • State Requirements:
    • Compliance with Georgia state regulations for nursing assistants, including maintaining certification and completing required continuing education.
    • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
