Overview

The Preconstruction Manager/Estimator is responsible for all aspects of estimating, including preconstruction, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, systems studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations, and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating.

PEG Construction Overview:

PEG Construction, was established in 2021 as the In-house general contractor serving clients both inside and outside of PEG Companies. This unique concept allows PEG Construction to work side by side with the ownership team for greater control over staffing, scheduling, and cost. PEG Construction delivers projects nationwide with an active presence in over 10 different states.

Responsibilities:

This position will play a crucial role in:

  • Establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with subcontractors and other key stakeholders in the industry
  • Build trust with local ownership and stay current on market trends and construction costs
  • Help with the preparation of concept and budgetary estimates and prepare final estimate bid proposals. Ensure that budget quotes and proposals are correct and professional.
  • Consult with clients and subcontractors to develop estimates.
  • Consult with the estimating team on details of estimates and general information.
  • Maintain professionalism during internal and external meetings.
  • Read and study bid package documents. Ensure company compliance. Ensure that bids are prepared consistently with those documents.
  • Develop accurate takeoffs. Evaluate subcontract cost estimates and proposals.
  • As required, provide assistance in negotiating contracts with owner and subcontractor, change orders, etc.
  • Review design/engineering specifications for cost-effectiveness. Suggest viable alternatives where applicable (Value Engineering).
  • Assist in the preconstruction process, including conceptual estimating and cost analysis.

Management Responsibilities:

This position will report directly to the President of Construction. This position will oversee all aspects of the preconstruction process.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, preferred.
  • 5+ years in Estimating, with a commercial construction general contractor.
  • Experience in commercial, municipal, higher education, and hospitality, with a strong emphasis on multifamily, as well as a variety of other markets.
  • Ability to read engineering and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical/logical mindset with an emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to read and understand contracts.
  • Outstanding and professional oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Technical Requirements:

  • Proficient in Planswift, RS Means, and Smartbid.net to create and manage bid invite processes
  • Strong experience in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook
  • Working understanding of Procore for all project and budgetary management
  • Some travel may be required
