JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Underwriter applies and interprets underwriting guidelines & rating rules in the evaluation and pricing of a commercial insurance risk. This role is responsible for providing ongoing service and account maintenance for multiple programs and/or products.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Takes the lead on projects and complex files.

· Provides application and policy consultation to clients and brokers.

· Acts as a primary liaison to the carrier.

· Suggests innovative solutions, process improvements and changes or trends to management.

· Provides underwriting support to staff, acting as a resource and mentor by providing feedback.

· Trains new colleagues in the department.

· Evaluate quality assurance, help test new rates, and process appeals as specified by the carrier.

· Provides oversight over the growth and retention of a program.

· Applies and interprets guidelines & rating rules in their evaluation of a risk with limited supervision.

· Provides policy interpretation and consultation to clients, brokers, and other colleagues.

· Ensures that all regulatory, compliance and transparency requirements are met and complies with all internal policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma required.

· College degree or 5+ years of related work experience preferred.

· Property & Casualty License is required.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills with ability to multitask.

· Basic computer skills and the ability to navigate through multiple systems without assistance.

  • Detail oriented to ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
