The Medication Aide role involves crucial responsibilities centered around medication administration and assessment input, with a focus on following through with Individualized Service Plans (ISP). Key duties include the administration of medications, verifying the correct medication and recording administration details, and supporting Resident Assistants (RA), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in daily routines. The role extends to obtaining and recording vital signs and weights, observing residents for medication responses, participating in care standards formulation, and counseling residents on social or personal issues. Additionally, the Medication Aide ensures timely communication with physicians/providers, families, and LPNs regarding medication orders and addresses residents' needs promptly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Assist and/or supervise the administration of medications to residents and observe ingestion or other application.
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medication, verifies that the correct medication is being given and records time of administration on MAR/electronic record.
- Assists RAs, CNAs and LPNs as needed with the resident in any daily routines, any personal care and housekeeping tasks that the resident needs assistance in performing.
- Obtains and records residents' vital signs (Temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and 02 Sats) and weight as directed.
- Observes residents to detect responses to specified types of medications and prepares reports or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
- Provides input in the formulation and evaluation of standards of care.
- Counsel residents in identifying and resolving social or other problems.
- Inform families when mail-order medicines need to be reordered.
- Talks to physician/provider offices and doctors/NPs as needed and informs on-shift LPN if changes in orders are needed.
- Assures call lights are answered in a timely manner to attend to the residents' needs as soon as possible after the call light is signaled.
- Keep accurate counts of narcotics and document per policy.
- Assists with dietary responsibilities, including serving meals and cleaning meal areas, as needed.
- Attends all training and meetings as required to stay abreast of changes in the organization and nursing department.
- Each employee will ensure all training required by State regulations is completed and documented each year.
- Assures all caregiver duties are performed as assigned and documented appropriately/electronic record.
- Participates in the care planning process as assigned.
- Addresses employee, family and resident concerns to promote satisfaction and good communication.
- Is fully knowledgeable of the fire evacuation and disaster policies of the community and participates, as assigned, in fire and disaster drills.
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent personal or health information concerning residents and staff.
- Conducts self in a professional manner in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor or the. Executive Director and which relate to the success of Remember Me Senior Care and happiness and well-being of our residents.

Educational Requirements and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.
- Previous Certified Nursing Assistant experience or student nurse preferred.
- Experience working with Alzheimer's/Dementia residents is desirable.
- Must be able to read, speak and write the English language.
Certifications, Licenses and other Special Requirements:
- Completed/Passed Medication Aide Training.
- Must be certified and current in CPR and first aid.
