Title: Custodian

Department: Facilities Management

Reports to: Facilities Director

General Summary of Position: This position is responsible for maintaining a tidy and professional visual appearance for The Advocate’s Rieger Campus facilities. Responsible for ensuring the daily cleanliness and operation of the work areas, kitchenettes, common areas, training areas and restrooms, as well as, ensuring all consumables are filled and readily available at all times.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • To perform routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of Capital City Press/The Advocate Rieger Campus facilities.
  • Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
  • Empties trash containers and cleans containers when necessary.
  • Mixes or blends routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks
  • Cleans floors using industrial-size mops and/or machines including vacuuming of carpeted areas bi-weekly. Spot vacuuming when necessary.
  • Dust blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
  • Maintains equipment; reports need for painting and minor building and/or equipment repair to supervisor
  • Performs custodial related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers and others.

Physical Requirements (coordination, dexterity and strength):

  • The job requires the following physical demands daily: Standing, sitting, walking, and rapid working speed.
  • The job requires the following physical demands more than once or twice a week: bending, carrying up to 50 lbs., grasping, reaching, stooping, twisting, and turning.
  • The job requires the following physical demands once or twice a week: Balancing, crouching, and feeling
  • The job requires the following physical demands less than once a week: Climbing, finger dexterity, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing up to 75 lbs., running, and throwing.

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noises (business office with computer and printers, light traffic)
  • Interacts with others
