Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs: Truck Ministry, Community First Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.


About the Role

The Move-In Assistant is an integral part of the Neighbor Care team, assisting in a variety of operational duties that support the Neighbor Care team, new and existing neighbors, and volunteers in the Move-In process. This role will focus on getting homes ready for new neighbors and helping new neighbors transition into life at Community First Village.


This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Move-In Manager. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, hours are flexible to fit need, but typically include 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. Some nights and weekends may be required. The Move-In Assistant will office at Community First Village located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan for and oversee Move-In Day for each new neighbor to ensure that tasks are scheduled, completed and the process runs smoothly
  • Schedule and work with contractors who do the final preparation on the homes the week before move-in, i.e. power washing and final cleaning; may need to complete the tasks if contractors are not available
  • Responsible for the final walk of each new home to check for any last-minute maintenance needs and complete the Move in Sheet
  • Order and ensure fresh groceries delivered to each home prior to move-in
  • Manage final part of the home prep process to ensure each home and the Move-In Team is ready to greet the new neighbor in a warm and welcoming manner
  • Train neighbor contractors for laundry and move in assistance; Fill in for "no show" contractors
  • Ensure documentation is complete and uploaded in a timely manner
  • Check in with new neighbors after move-in to answer questions and assist in making necessary connections to people or resources
  • Ensure that new neighbors that are interested in working onsite are onboarded and introduced to Community Works managers; Follow up and assist new neighbor is securing placement in the Community Works program if desired
  • Assist in the preparations and attend New Neighbor 101 classes
  • Responsible for working with neighbors who transfer homes through the medical accommodations process, once approved
  • Assist in Neighbor Care events as needed
  • Other Duties & Responsibilities as needed

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and move about all phases of the property
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend
  • Ability to frequently move supplies, furniture, and home goods of at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work extended periods in outdoor weather conditions
