Basketball Coach

GENERAL PURPOSE: Position is responsible for organizing the sport program at the assigned school, conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. The coach is accountable to the Principal and functions as a member of the school team. Subscribe to the vision, mission and values of Integrity Educational Services and the applicable academy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructs players in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.
- Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
- Collaborates with soccer coaches across the network to build a world-class soccer program.
- Inspires a love for the sport and encourages critical thinking through rigorous instruction.
- Coordinates and leads family meetings and tryouts.
- Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the School Principal informed of the athletic performance of students.
- Determines game strategy.
- Supervising athletes during practices and competition.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
- Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the School Principal.
- Submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, School Principal or other appropriate administrator.
- Performs all other duties, as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of the job such as education, experience, competencies, knowledge and skills are listed below.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or competence required.
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma. Experience coaching youth and/or collegiate teams. Effective coaching techniques and skills. A demonstrated track record of propelling students’ understanding and love of the sport. Advanced understanding of the game as well as strong classroom management. The drive to ensure that joyful, rigorous instruction is delivered to every scholar, every day.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to develop concepts such as teamwork, healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship and nutrition.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: N/A
Training: Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.
Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.
