Position Summary

Works independently or as part of a team on scheduled and unscheduled activities of the Facilities Department to ensure the plant meets department and overall plant goals of safety and quality. Sets up, adjusts, operates, maintains and troubleshoots various facilities equipment in a modern and complex food production facility. Performs specific duties in the following areas: Ammonia Refrigeration Systems, Waste Water, Plant Boiler and Hot Water Systems, Compressed Air Systems, roof, HVAC, Spiral Freezer and others. All work is to be performed in a manner that complies with all federal, state, local, IIAR, RETA, SQF 2000, and company rules and regulations and with optimum regard to Plant Safety.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Run facilities equipment such as but not limited to ammonia compressors, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, boilers, glycol systems, filters, spiral freezers, HVAC units, pumps, DWAFT, blowers, etc.
  2. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant machinery and equipment such as but not limited to ammonia compressors, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, boilers, glycol systems, filters, spiral freezers, HVAC units, pumps, DWAFT, blowers, etc.
  3. Troubleshoot, repair, or replace devices such as but not limited to valves, filters, belts, bearings, pumps, hoses, pneumatic and basic electrical power components etc.
  4. Perform and document rounds, logging of vital process and equipment information such is but not limited to temperature and pressure of ammonia compressors, boiler steam pressure, waste water effluent pH.
  5. Perform and document work order repairs, inspections, and adjustments as well as preventative and predictive maintenance tasks.
  6. Ability to set up and operate equipment such as but not limited to meters, hand tools and small power tools.
  7. Works closely with production, maintenance, and warehouse personnel to effectively resolve and eliminate plant and process problems.
  8. Responsible for daily communication of all pertinent information to department management.
  9. Works in conjunction with maintenance technicians to cross train on system maintenance to obtain adequate coverage across all shifts.
  10. Assist management in developing standard operating procedures, and duty cycles for all repairs and maintenance, relating to process and packaging equipment.
  11. Required to interpret and understand plans and specifications, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals for systems being overseen.
  12. Required to work at heights on scissor lifts, boom lifts, on top of silos, etc. while wearing appropriate safety gear.
  13. Performs all other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
  14. Participates in plant safety, SQF2000, health and environmental programs.

Job Specifications

Education/Training:

Required: High School diploma. RETA I or equivalent.

Preferred: RETA II, PSM/RMP, or other additional refrigeration training

Experience/Knowledge/Abilities:

Required: Ability to operate and troubleshoot the following: Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration Plant, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, boilers, glycol systems, filters, spiral freezers, HVAC units, pumps, blowers, and other facilities equipment.

Preferred: Ability to operate and troubleshoot the following: Biological Waste Water Treatment Plant

Employees Supervised: None

Contacts: Internal employees, External suppliers, and contractors

Work Environment: Climate Controlled Manufacturing Plant

Equipment Used: Electrical meters, maintenance tools, computers.

Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, bending, and climbing around equipment inside and outside of the facility. Employee must be able to work for extended times at heights above 20 feet. Employee must be able to regularly move or lift 50# loads.
