Inspection Supervisor Position Overview

Manages inspection and testing of materials, parts, and assemblies to ensure adherence to established requirements. Supervises the Quality Inspection team in accordance with organizational procedures and goals. Ensures proper functioning of the quality department processes/procedures with a continuous improvement mindset. Supports operations groups with their quality control needs. Familiar with a variety of process control concepts, practices, and procedures. Develops and maintains good working relationship with cross functional employees, inspectors, leadership, and customers. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Position reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Quality.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Supervise approximately 25 Inspector direct reports (Assembly, Bond, Paint, NDI, Receiving/Stock Purge) across multiple shifts; including but not limited to ensuring shop inspection coverage for multiple programs and shifts, time keeping approvals, vacation schedules, overtime management and performance reviews.
  • Develop inspection processes, methodologies and formally document this into structured inspection plans.
  • Ensure Inspectors are conducting the required surveillance audits (e.g., FOD/5s, Operator Self Verification, etc.) and initiate corrective action for non-compliances.
  • Create/Manage various performance metrics (surveillance audit results, inspection response time, FOD failures, NCR flow time, etc.) to be evaluated in CABs. In addition, hold responsible parties accountable for poor performance.
  • Develop inspector new hire training plans based on discipline (e.g., assembly, bond, NDI, etc.), cross train all existing inspection resources to eliminate single points of failure; implement and manage a skills matrix.
  • Support quality improvement plans and work with all disciplines to ensure effective RCCA’s.
  • Monitor activities of assigned employees to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements, procedures and performance expectations.
  • Ensure that all personnel maintain their needed certifications and training requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable business & quality processes and procedures such as FAA, DoD, Export Control, ITAR, Nadcap, AS9100, AS9102 and customer contractual requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with receiving inspection processes including required testing completion.
  • Support all shipping related quality functions i.e., Certificates of Conformance, customer/FAA inspections, FAA 8130-9 forms, etc.
  • Performs a variety of tasks as required and have excellent follow up skills.
  • Other related duties as required due to changes in business processes or customer requirements.

Experience and Other Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent resident per ITAR (i.e., ‘Green Card’) (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) guidelines.
  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or a foreign person per ITAR.
  • The successful candidate will have an Associate Degree, at minimum, in a relevant field. Candidates having significant work experience in similar roles may be considered.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of related Quality experience, including a minimum 3 years of experience managing people.
  • Knowledge of aerospace composites manufacturing and major Assembly (NDI/NDT experience a plus).
  • Ability to understand, communicate and present complex technical information to a wide audience.
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office applications (i.e., Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Self-motivated and able to proactively recognize and prioritize business and department needs.
  • Material Review Board process knowledge and in-depth understanding of the role/responsibilities the Quality organization has in this process.
  • Experience in manufacturing execution systems within aerospace field is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 Aerospace Quality Management System practices/procedures
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, GD&T, MBD, specifications and experience executing First Article Inspection reports per AS9102 requirements.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal, so others will understand.
  • Good people relationship building skills and people management skills with ability to provide direction and support to department staff.
  • Self-starter, able to manage one's own time, and the time of the department resources.
  • Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Has knowledge of Practical Problem-Solving techniques such as A3, 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis to determine the origin of a failure, its impact to overall business, and determine containment and countermeasure actions to eliminate recurrence of nonconformances.
  • 100% onsite role.
