The IRAD/ERAD Technician is responsible for the inspection of potentially nonconforming parts (both internal – IRAD and customer returned ERAD) and evaluating their disposition (based on inspection results or consulting with various groups). This position includes performing inventory transactions, creating shop orders, creating purchase orders in the Oracle computer system and documenting transactions with good reference notes.  It also requires contacting the various vendors and getting return material authorization.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct evaluations on parts returned to the IRAD/ERAD areas based on discrepancy reports provided with the parts. These evaluations shall be based on the use of blueprints, vendor information, and information from other departments.  These evaluations can require the use of various inspection tools (such as calipers, mics, and programmable height gage).
  • Testing and evaluation of returned electronic components using test stand equipment and through vendor support services to determine part issues
  • Perform Oracle computer system transactions to transfer inventory, create nonstandard shop orders to rework/repair/disassemble the parts, breaking Sub/Final Assemblies down into subcomponents based on Bill of Materials and creating purchase orders for outside vendor repairs/evaluations.  Use Oracle advanced planning future demand dates for use in reworking of part components
  • Consult various departments to obtain input on reworking the parts back to print specs, or engineering change requirements
  • Contact vendors to get return authorizations for part evaluations/repairs and to work through part problem issues. Also expediting vendor delivery dates as needed
  • Collect and evaluate return part data (sorting and analysis) for the purpose of improvement. Contact and work with various departments to eliminate problems that caused the parts to come to the IRAD/ERAD area. (Investigate process improvements, submit Engineering Database Issues, update drawings, etc.)
  • Assist/lead in the problem solving of part quality issues.  (This includes sorting, scrapping, and determining the root cause of the part problem)
  • Perform and document sample inspection checks of Mark Andy or vendor manufactured new parts
  • Perform basic electrical testing of components returned for warranty submission
  • Assist in performing gage calibration duties which includes collecting, cleaning, calibration and data recording of the results as required using calibration tracking software
  • Use product knowledge to identify ways to use up excess inventory items.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of machining processes
  • Experience: Familiarity with manufacturing environment, good working knowledge of GD & T (ANSI Y14.5 – 1994), knowledge of ISO –9001. ASQ certification a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good Mechanical /Electrical problem-solving skills, ability to interpret blueprint and wiring diagrams
  • Good Microsoft Excel, Word. Outlook and Oracle navigation skills.
  • Good working knowledge on inspection equipment (calipers, mics, height gage).
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function of the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Education: Associates degree, or 2-4 years of experience in quality assurance / manufacturing environment
  • Interact with others.
  • Work in moderate stress environment.
  • Deal with interpersonal conflicts or difficult situations
  • Work in an office/manufacturing environment.
  • Provide coverage during certain periods.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Moderate to frequent exposure to shop environment; may be exposed to dust, odors, oils, fumes, chemicals, noise and moving parts.  Work typically requires the usage of PPE and can require work on the facility’s production floor or customer’s production environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and move about facility and/or customer’s facilities.  Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
