Job DescriptionJob DescriptionHughes Brothers Construction is expanding its Safety Department and is looking for a person with a team approach to Safety. Safety team members act as a resource to all employees offering mentoring, coaching and instruction.
Safety Associate
Schedule/ Location:
Monday-Thursday 7am-5pm; Friday 7am-3:30pm
Occasional Extended hours as needed.
Onsite: Wildwood, FL office, multiple job sites including Wildwood, Tampa and Orlando areas
The Safety Associate reports to the Safety director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee safety programs, policies, and best practices on multiple jobsites.
• Perform jobsite audits to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Lead toolbox talks on jobsites with crew members.
• Identify PPE requirements and provide PPE to crew members.
• Inspect rigging, ensure proper use, maintenance, replacement and re certification as required.
• Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures.
• Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
• Provide training both on the jobsite as well as in a classroom setting.
• Document deficiencies and corrective actions.
• Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
• Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
• Wear required clothing: jeans, shirt with minimum 4” sleeves, work boots, hi-visibility vest, hard hat, and safety glasses.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) standards
• Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma
• Ability to conduct training.
• 2 plus years safety experience in construction, preferably earth moving and excavations.
• OSHA 30
• OSHA 500 preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Periods of sitting at a desk, and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs. at times.
• Ability to travel as required to jobsites to conduct safety inspections.
• Walking on uneven ground
• Walking up and down slopes
• Climbing up and down ladders
• Acceptable driving record
• Extended periods of time outdoors in all weather conditions
