ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (include but are not limited to):
- Functioning within the scope of practice established by AAMA and/or Registry standards.
- Completing all educational training, competency testing, and validation before performing any tasks independently.
- Providing direct patient care in the clinical setting and assist the licensed healthcare providers.
- Communicating effectively with other persons (oral, written, non-verbal).
CLINICAL NEEDS
- Obtain vital signs (temp, pulse, resp., BP, O2 sat), height, and weights.
- Assist in collecting medical history/information, habits and allergies.
- Assist in performing medication reconciliation as needed.
- Review and update screening and prevention within the medical record and communicate these needs to the healthcare provider.
- Accurately and completely record all patient data (written & electronically).
- Prepare patients for an examination by the provider while maintain patient privacy.
- Assist the HCP with clinical procedures and examinations as appropriate.
- Review current immunization guidelines, storage, handling, and administration.
- Assist in the administration of medications that have been delegated by a licensed healthcare provider.
- Assist in performing EKGs, vision screening, audiometric testing, and ear wax removal.
- Assist the licensed HCP in administering nebulizer treatments and/or completing a 6 minute walk test.
- Assist the licensed HCP in performing a diabetic foot examination.
- Administer screening tools such as the PHQ-9, GAD 7, etc and enter result into the EMR.
- Perform capillary/venipuncture sticks as ordered by the licensed HCP.
- Obtain/prepare laboratory specimens using standard precautions to prevent exposure/ injury.
- Assist in cleaning and operation of the autoclave machine.
- Provide printed health education materials as directed by the HCP.
- Assist the licensed HCP in obtaining patient signatures on forms (consents, medical record release, etc.).
- Maintaining cleanliness of the clinical area, laboratory, and procedure rooms.
- Stock medical supplies in clinical area, laboratory, and procedure rooms.
- Assist the Director of Operations in maintain a current level of inventory.
- Check expiration dates on supplies and dispose of expired items per agency policy.
- Assist with covering other providers and CSS as needed.
- Perform timely and accurate documentation in EMR and charges to support billing department.
- Accurately perform and document on quality control logs (refrigerator temperatures, CLIA waved lab testing, etc.).
- Treat all patients with courtesy, respective, and cultural sensitivity.
- Maintain accurate log for tracking patient’s tests.
MEDICAL RECORDS
- Accurately document in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Access patient charts for direct and/or indirect patient care. Direct patient care may involve face to face interactions. Indirect patient care may include, but is not limited to, PCMH tracking, chart updates, preparation of lab orders and validating demographical information, etc.
- Accurately document patient charges for completeness of billing.
- Submit request for medication refills/samples electronically to the HCP.
- Review request for medical supplies/durable equipment with the EMR and forward to the HCP.
- Review request for re-certifications for home health, home oxygen, etc. within the EMR & forward to HCP.
- Assist the referral coordinator with referrals and prior authorization as needed.
- Forward request for disability/ Medicare/ Medicaid/ Sliding Scale, etc. to the office staff.
- Assist in updating the EMR when records are received from other health care providers and offices.
- Request medical records from other medical facilities
- Assist the patient care coordinator with tracking hospital records.
- Dispose of all PHI according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Accurately use electronic databases
PHONE CALLS
- Provide patient assistance during incoming phone calls.
- Return patient phone calls in a timely manner per organization policy.
- Leave messages as per HIPPA standards and guidelines
- Maintain a written log of incoming and outgoing phone messages.
- Utilize the EMR to communicate patient needs to the HCP.
- Create appropriate encounter in the EMR to document communication with the patient.
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Attend all staff meetings (monthly and as scheduled).
- Assist in the preparation of clinical reports required by the clinic.
- Develop a working knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local statutes and regulations governing the operation of a federally qualified health care facility.
- Adhere to all clinical policies and procedures.
- Attend daily huddles & participate in patient care team.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the medical director & administration.
