The Human Resources Coordinator provides HR services to the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston and the Stone Zoo in Stoneham. This position provides administrative services and support to the Human Resources Department.  These services include but are not limited to the following HR functions: orientation preparation, processing, distributing, data entering, and filing of HR documents as needed.  A key function of this position is administering ZNE’s employee benefits. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, work with and around confidential information, be it verbal or written, and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations. Compliance with ZNE Defensive Driving policy as required by ZNE’s liability insurance carrier is a must.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compiling the necessary documents, forms, and benefits documents to complete orientation packages for new hire orientation.
  • Assembling the personnel folders for each new hire.
  • Complete I-9 verifications and maintain the I-9 filing system.
  • Maintain an adequate office supply of all HR folders, forms, and documents needed for new hire orientation and to service ZNE’s employees.   
  • Scan documents into BambooHR.
  • Data entry of new hire information, benefits enrollments/terminations, and all other employee updates into BambooHR.
  • Updating benefits information in BambooHR and, as required, the insurance provider’s online portal to ensure accurate recordkeeping and payroll deductions.
  • Work with the Payroll Administrator to process all payroll-related HR documents, such as benefit payroll deductions, payroll Change of Status Forms, and government-requested wage garnishments.
  • Assist with processing terminations and scheduling Exit Interviews.
  • Prepare and mail separation letters to all separating employees.
  • Assist employees with their questions and fulfill their requests to the best of your abilities.
  • Assist with Open Enrollment duties and as needed.
  • Assist with processing of performance reviews and merit increases as needed.
  • Post job opportunities in BambooHR and ZNE’s list of external job boards.


Working Conditions

This position is stationed in an office environment. It requires the ability to sit and maintain eye contact with a computer screen for extended periods, with the opportunity to stretch and walk as needed. The position also requires the ability to type for extended periods of time during a workday. Office equipment includes a telephone, fax, and scanner.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Previous experience working with HIRS systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
  • Excellent people skills, courteous professional and polite.
  • Working understanding of human resources principles, practices, and procedures.


Preferred Job Requirements

  • All the above minimum job requirements plus:
  • Four years of Human Resources experience.
  • Professional Certification in Human Resources.
