About the Program and Position:

The ACS Program supports foster youth in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services in New York City. Our Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program serves 137 youth ages 0-21+. It supports them with a multidisciplinary team that includes a Case Planner, Health Services Team, Psychiatrist, Behavioral Support Specialist, Family Advocate, Case Aide, Family Team Conferencing Coordinator, Education Workforce Specialist, Employment/Internship and Housing Specialist, Fair Futures Coach, Foster Home Recruiter and Licensor and Clinician. Our therapeutic approach to foster care includes direct access to Clinicians and foster parents trained at a treatment foster care level implementing the ARC framework. This makes a difference because our team approach provides a space for healing while providing skill-building and future-focused planning for youth in our care.

We seek to hire a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse for the NYC Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program to provide medical support to children in our care. Under the guidance of the Director of Article 29i Services, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the medical needs of these children are met with care and professionalism.

How you get to use your skills…

  • Assist with initial medical assessments.
  • Communicate with NP/PA to assist in youth referrals to appropriate medical specialties.
  • Assist with required documentation for prescriptions
  • Assist with follow-up services for NYC programs
  • Administer vaccinations as needed for each youth
  • Administer TB tests to youth and employees
  • Provide support with creating and electronically submitting referrals for each youth with paperwork for other NYC programs.
  • Properly document each medical service.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff and treatment teams to provide appropriate services to youth in the New York City Programs.
  • Conduct home visits for the youth in the New York City Programs
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for medical services
  • Will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date and enforcing the stakeholders' policies surrounding medical needs for youth
  • Formulate treatment plans and goals for youth based on a review of medical records in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team
  • Provide medication administration records and training for foster parents and youth
  • Monitor and communicate medical needs to multidisciplinary treatment team on an ongoing basis

Schedule: Exempt

  • Regular hours vary Monday - Friday
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs
  • Evenings and weekends may be required
  • On-call phone triage rotation required


  • NYS Registered Nurse license

  • Experience working with at-risk youth or youth in foster care - strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills - required
  • Ability to work effectively in a team context
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgment
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations as required
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures, including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Willingness to travel
  • Valid NYS Driver's License required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Word processing: Including responding to e-mails, composing letters, and transcribing minutes for meetings, involves sitting at a computer for several hours a day

  • Completing paperwork and electronic documentation
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Sit/ride in vehicles and/or public transportation for lengthy periods of time
  • Walk up/down stairs
  • Walk several blocks to get to the required locations
