Position Summary: Under purview of the VP of Operations, the Safety Manager develops, implements, administers, and monitors safety programs to ensure a safe workplace as well as compliance with applicable regulations; inspects Service Centers and job sites; monitors legislative changes and recommends policy changes to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations; writes safety plans and programs; and prepares and maintains required reports and records. Provides, coordinates, and documents training related to workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops, evaluates, implements and enforces safety policies and procedures in compliance with all applicable State, Federal, and local rules and regulations.
  • Maintains safety and risk management related records.
  • Reports and tracks the company’s TRIF, LTIFR, and DART stats.
  • Coordinates and assists with conducting injury After Action Reviews (AARs).
  • Organizes and prepares or oversees the preparation of all policies, procedures, and forms related to safety and risk management for employees.
  • Prepares and updates fully encompassed Safety Manual for all Mercury Departments.
  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts employee training on a wide range of safety, security, and emergency response issues, including developing training materials and facilitating a training implementation program in LMS with Manager or Training and Documentation.
  • Conducts Service Center and position-specific safety evaluation and makes recommendations regarding safety, training and PPE.
  • Develops and tracks SC Safety Inspection program where members of each SC shall be assigned safety QCs to perform weekly/monthly and report findings and/or deficiencies.
  • Develops and maintains training documentation and OSHA 300 reporting to support the safety program as required by State and Federal laws.
  • Ensures and monitors that all employee training and safety certifications are up to date within Aspire LMS and/or ADP.
  • Prepares, coordinates and implements emergency preparation and response plans.
  • Monitors health and safety legislative and regulatory changes; evaluates implications for policies, programs and operations and recommends changes to ensure compliance; stays abreast of industry practices and trends.
  • Conducts special and periodic inspections of Service Centers, job sites, and offices to identify safety and environmental hazards; prepares and follows up on inspection reports of hazards and required abatements.
  • Conducts accident investigations. Implements programs, training and equipment changes needed to correct identified causes of accidents, prepares analysis of employee accidents/injuries, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
  • Works closely with the Sr. HR Generalist on the processing of workers' compensation claims.
  • Works closely with the Fleet Manager on vehicle accident reporting.
  • Works closely with the Training Manager on safety training creation and upload to Aspire. Works with Training Manager and Department Managers on assigning training to employees and tracking 100% training implementation.
  • Work with VP of Operations and HR to create and implement proactive behavior identification method to stop injuries before injuries happen and hole employees accountable.
  • Organizes and maintains necessary documentation, records, and permits.
  • Receives and responds to employees’ inquiries regarding workplace safety.
  • Selects, maintains, provides, and documents required training on all Personal Protective Equipment in use by Service Center employees.
  • Responsible for the Hazardous Communication program including Material Safety Data Sheets. Provides training on chemical hazards and proper protective measures for all employees.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Knowledge of regulations, principles, policies, practices and methods for developing and administering a comprehensive risk management program including emergency preparedness, safety, hazardous materials, health, safety, and claims. Ability to interpret those regulations and implement programs and procedures necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with Service Center employees, management, regulators, consultants, contractors, insurance company representatives, and others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and organized plans and procedures.
  • Ability to follow up on feedback to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Ability to develop policies and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and specific needs of various departments.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work to ensure that critical functions are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ability to compile, evaluate, diagnose and analyze complex data and information from current information and historical trends, and be able to recommend and take appropriate actions.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Subject Matter Expert in Telecommunications Standards and Fall Protection CFR-29 OSHA 1910.268
  • 5 years in a safety leadership role
  • Experience developing “ground-up” safety program
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instruction Certification
  • Ability to use MS Office suite
  • Expert with OSHA investigations and reporting. Maintenance of OSHA 300 logs
