Provide the full scope of primary care services which fall under his/her field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance to patients sixteen (16) years of age and above. In that capacity they are expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Center and work collaboratively to achieve them. They must be cognizant of, and comply with, all Center policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations.

Essential Position Duties

  1. Ability to Function independently when appropriate and as part of a team and in collaboration with collaborating team members to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill female patients.
  2. Assesses health status, illness conditions, responses to illness, coping behaviors, environment and health risks of individuals, families, and groups in order to diagnose actual or potential health status or disease state. These assessments are accomplished by taking histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory and/or diagnostic tests/data according to accepted protocols
  3. Provides women’s health medical patient care by interviewing, examining and treating of clinical patients in order to meet their medical needs. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs
  4. Educates patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families
  5. Determines which referrals are required based on examination and patient needs
  6. Determines level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments
  7. Exercises final medical judgment in all issues of health care
  8. Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients
  9. Orders studies, test and ancillary services
  10. Documents all services in patient medical record
  11. Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention
  12. Consults with Medical Director and other professionals on staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues
  13. Comply with the Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff.
  14. Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital or clinic requirements
  15. Oversees mid-level medical staff as assigned as well as nursing clinical staff
  16. Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients
  17. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations
  18. Performs various procedures as required (as based on competency and privileging)
  19. Obtain PAP smears, genital, wound and other cultures as indicated.
  20. Performs miscellaneous duties as required by management.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Core Competencies/Skill Sets

· Ability to provide care to female patients who need preventive care and screenings and interpretation of diagnostic tests related to women’s health issues

· Provide care to female patients, including Gynecology visits for health assessments, annual exams, colposcopies, endometrial biopsies

· Manage abnormal uterine bleeding, family planning, and

· Manage Obstetric care for low and high risk pregnant patients including pregnancy tests, initial obstetric visits, pregnancy follow up, non-stress tests, ultrasounds.


Professional Experience/Educational Requirements

  • Medical degree in medicine from an accredited school and licensed to practice in Connecticut
  • Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration
  • Minimum two years of direct work or intern experience
  • Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal and postnatal periods;
  • Perform scheduled surgeries at the local hospital and surgery center;
  • Take 24 hour call at least once per week at the local hospital to medically manage and provide care for all COHC patients that go to the hospital through the ER or Labor and Delivery; including vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections and any other surgical emergencies such as dilations and curettages, laparoscopies or laparotomies.

Certification/Licensure

· Current D.E.A. Certificate

· Board Eligible or Board Certified in Obstetrics. If Board Eligible at the time of hire, must be Board Certified within 3 years of hire date.

· Insurability (malpractice)

· Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)

· ACLS or Advanced Life Support within 12 months of employment, if appropriate
