The Environmental Services Attendant I may work in any location on Opelousas General Health System premises. This individual cleans and keeps in an orderly condition facilities or locations in the areas of all commercial, health care, and other establishments associated with Opelousas General Health System. The general responsibilities of this position include those listed below, but management from Environmental Service Director may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among areas and/ or units within Opelousas General Health System, depending on business and patient care necessities, organizational requirements and applicable recommendations from regulatory agencies. The Environmental Services Attendant I must be able and willing to work flexible hours. Finally, the Environmental Services Attendant I should help to administer and coordinate programs within the framework of the established policies, performs tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with the safety and health programs, assists in training and maintenance of a safe workplace for all staff within the Opelousas General Health System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cleans patients’ rooms, common areas, offices, lavatories, halls food service areas, physician areas.
  • Sweeps, mops, clean hallways, stairs and office spaces using 7 cleaning steps.
  • Pulls Trash/ Linen from area.
  • High dusts all horizontal surfaces in area
  • Damp wipes/ spot cleans walls/ and checks while replenishing all dispensers in area.
  • Cleans bathroom.
  • Dust mops the entire area.
  • Damp mops the entire area.
  • Inspects area for completion of all assignments.
  • Cleans light fixtures, ceilings and vents, walls, mattresses, furniture, windows and window coverings.
  • Properly and safely uses cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and OGHS Environmental Services department with direction from Infection Control department.
  • Empties trash, garbage containers and bio-hazardous containers (3/4 full)
  • Replenishes all supplies throughout the organization.
  • May change linens and replenish linens for all discharge patient rooms.
  • Completion of 7 step cleaning within following areas:
  • Patient Care Rooms and Areas (including Nourishment Stations, Nurses Stations, Clean and Soiled Utility Rooms, Medicine Rooms, and Supply Closets)
  • Obstetrician Rooms and Areas (including C-Section Suite)
  • Surgical Rooms and Areas (including Operating Rooms, Central Sterile, Decontamination, Special Procedure, and Locker Rooms)
  • Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Respiratory Areas, and all ancillary areas
  • Notifies supervisor concerning need for major or minor repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Records work completed on Area Assignment Checklist daily and return to supervisor’s area.

Cleans Daily the following:

  • Sink (inside & outside), Toilet (inside & outside)
  • Mirror, Tub/Shower (inside & outside)
  • All edges under and over 6 Ft.
  • Walls/ Water pipes/ Wastebaskets (inside & outside)
  • Door & Door frames
  • Baseboards & Corners/ edges
  • Desks & counter tops- including (telephones, furniture, cabinets, over bed tables, TV controls, bed-side table, cubicle curtains)
  • Dust Mop/ Damp Mop or vacuum carpeted areas.
  • Polices assigned areas at the beginning of each shift, respond to housekeeping pages, and perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Responds to all Fire and Codes for the organization.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner, with detailed documentation.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures & regulatory requirements directed by governance for department and Opelousas General Health System
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintain personal networks, participate in professional organizations.

Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred.
